Romy Opperman (she/her) is originally from London and is currently assistant professor of philosophy at the New School, NYC, living on Lenape land near the historic Black freedom community of Weeksville, Brooklyn. Romy’s research foregrounds the importance of racism, colonialism, and imperialism for environmental and climate justice, and focuses on feminist Africana and anti-colonial philosophy to envision liberated climate futures. Recent publications include: ‘Charles Mills’s “Black Trash”: Reproducing Race, Pig Waste, and Ecological Resistance,’ in Critical Philosophy of Race, and “Sylvia Wynter’s Caribbean Critical Theory,” in Creolizing Critical Theory: New Voices in Caribbean Philosophy. Romy is currently working on feminist alternatives to nuclearism and writing a book tentatively titled Groundings: Black Ecologies of Freedom.
